To help the Department of Veterans Affairs' disability claims team get through the application and review processes more quickly, we need a senior front-end developer. The goal is to have veterans receive their benefits in minutes, not months, and without having to undergo any unnecessary medical examinations.

You will be asked to provide sophisticated answers for today's most pressing technological problems (specifically React and Ruby). You should be tech-savvy, confident, and self-directed. You need to be an expert front-end developer, capable of producing code that is easily understood, well-documented, and thoroughly tested. By weighing alternatives and presenting solutions to our stakeholders, you will play a key role in guiding the team to a successful resolution.

Responsibilities

• Participate in establishing web product-wide benchmarks for product and code quality with other frontend developers.
• Own a sizable chunk of the process from problem understanding to shipping the solution in close collaboration with product managers, designers, other teams, and internal and external partners.
• Uphold rigorous engineering practices and ensure codebase uniformity
• Deliver solutions that are high-quality, scalable, and stable.
• Resolve technically challenging problems with broad and intricate implications
• Find places in the code base that could use improvement, both inside and outside of your team's purview, and do what you can to make those changes.
• Be an advocate for your team's needs when it comes to improving product quality, security, and performance.

Requirements

• Five to seven years of front-end development experience in an Agile setting, with a focus on interacting with clients
• Expertise in React or another cutting-edge JavaScript web framework (Angular, Ember, etc.)
• Professionalism and expertise in designing and developing Ruby on Rails applications
• the ability to create automated tests (Jest, Karma, Jasmine, Mocha, AVA, tape)
• Having a firm grasp on the fundamentals of Semantic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Proven ability to articulate technical, architectural, and/or organizational challenges and propose comprehensive, iterative solutions
• Having dealt with performance and optimization issues before and having shown you can both diagnose and prevent them is a plus.
• Competent in working and leading in an agile, iterative team environment Bachelor's or higher degree in any field
